Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth by Scott Lobdell is what a “jumping on point” should be. It gives you some background on Jason Todd before he was Robin, what ended his career as Robin, and how he came back to life and what he is currently doing. Even if you have no clue who or what a Red Hood is, Scott has got you covered.
After reading other Rebirth issues I felt like I was missing something. I was presented a character with an enormous past, but being told not to worry about that because…..look it’s the Joker! Red Hood informed me on what I needed to know about the character’s upbringing and his relationship with Bats without making me feel like I missed a decade of Jason’s life. Scott sets the perfect tone for the book and Jason’s thoughts and personality are firmly established through his writing.
Not only is the writing excellent and to the point, but the art is gorgeous. I bought this on Comixology, but I have to go to Third Eye to pick up a physical copy. Yes, I need to hold the book in my hands because it is that good. If you are picking up random issues of rebirth, do yourself a favor and grab Red Hood and The Outlaws, you will not be disappointed.
